“CAN THESE BONES LIVE AGAIN?”

"He said unto me, Son of Man, can these bones live again? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest. He said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Behold I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live." (Ezekiel 37:1-6)

Men everywhere are aware that something is amiss with the life and activities of the church in Nigeria. We have a form of religion but no power. For the average Christian, life has lost its meaning; its joy; and there is no shout of praise in the soul. Moral and spiritual decline has fallen very low and already we are seeing the terrible signs in our society which speak of the last days. Standards of decency in public and private are debased and the sacredness of home and family is forsaken. The church must carry most of the blame for this state of affairs.

Yet there are also signs of a great spiritual awakening in many places and particularly among the youth of the land. Hundreds are getting converted and seeking to know more of the real Christian way of living. 'It is for these that we send out this issue, of Herald of the Last days. It is dedicated to the young people of Nigeria who are stirred and excited by the prospect of tasting the wonderful life of a Christian; of realizing the wonders of the New Birth and fullness of the Holy Spirit and of service for the Lord Jesus, in these wonderful but crisis days.

In this issue, you will find advice on how to deal with enquirers for salvation and also how to deal with demon powers. With the great awakening throughout all the land, there is also a great increase in the operations of the powers of darkness and each Christian must know how to detect them and deal with them. If they are crisis days, they are also days of wonderful opportunity and there is no joy like that of being used by the Holy Spirit to lead others into salvation and life in its fullness.

The wave of evil can be halted if the tide of lawlessness can be turned, if the church can be awakened, if revival can and will come, "IF 'MY PEOPLE, WHICH ARE CALLED BY MY NAME, SHALL HUMBLE THEMSELVES, AND PRAY, AND SEEK MY FACE, AND TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS; THEN WILL I HEAR FROM HEAVEN, AND WILL FORGIVE THEIR SIN AND WILL HEAL THEIR LAND" (II Chron. 7:14).

Let us kneel and pray and confess our sin before the Lord and ask Him to revive us and to start the work in us NOW.

Only a supernatural visitation can save this nation now. There must be a divine visitation from heaven that will breathe life into the dry bones that they may live.

But let us not be unbelieving. The dry bones can and will live again. The revival is coming and God is only waiting for His people to repent and turn to Him and surrender themselves for His use and He will pour life and blessing through us for others.

That is the purpose of the present move of the Holy Spirit throughout the land. God is moving and calling out those whom He can trust to carry this revival, and most of those whom He is calling are laymen and young people.

Laymen will write the last victorious chapter of the Church's history in Nigeria, in an outburst of surrender, dedication, and personal evangelism. You can be among that despised, persecuted but privileged company if you dedicate yourself to the Lord NOW.

It will be noted in the quotation at the start of this article that the question is asked of the prophet by God Himself, "Can these bones live again?" It seems that God was testing the faith of His servant, and the prophet responded by stating that God Himself knew. But then God asked the prophet to exercise his faith and prophesy that those bones would live. God took man into partnership with Himself in the task.

So it will be today. Revival is the work of the Holy Spirit on the earth, moving in the hearts and lives of His people. But revival also takes men into partnership. God's methods and instruments are men and He has confined Himself to using men for revival.

If we are ready to submit to God and conform to His stated conditions, then He will bring revival. The very fact that there is a deep hunger and prayer in the hearts of so many Spirit filled people is a proof that God is moving again; for it is only God who can create such hunger and He will not create it and then not fulfil it.

God uses MEN and the coming revival will be brought by men, who are filled with the Holy Spirit and who are completely dedicated to God and revival in Nigeria in this day. It will not come through the church system but it undoubtedly will flow into the hungry churches and then meet the needs of the thousands who will rush to seek salvation and deliverance, no matter the name of the church or the minister.

WOULD YOU BE READY FOR GOD TO USE IF THE REVIVAL STARTS TODAY? God is preparing the vessels who will be able to minister and meet the needs of that Revival.

WILL YOU BE READY? You can start right now by reading and acting upon the instruction in this magazine. We shall seek to teach you more in future issues.

HOW TO APPROACH AN UNSAVED PERSON

How many times have you wanted to witness to someone, but you could not find the correct way to approach them, and so the opportunity passed?

Witnessing is a simple conversation between a Christian and an enquirer or needy person. Any layman can do it. The main problem is how to start a conversation and then so direct it, under the control of the Holy Spirit, that eventually the enquirer can be led into salvation and a sound knowledge of what Jesus Christ has done for him. I want to help you to become a successful soul-winner for the Master.

Here are a few suggestions and ideas on how to approach people, which you can use. But remember the Holy Spirit is the great teacher, and guide. Commit your life and way to Him.

FIRST: "HAVE YOU EVER GIVEN MUCH THOUGHT TO SPIRITUAL MATTERS?"

As it should be your plan to get the person to think, do not be abrupt or accusing, but make your question natural and thoughtful.

SECONDLY: "WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS MAN’S GREATEST NEED?"

Let your friend talk, let him express his thoughts and mind and thus you can secure his attention and interest.

But try to make sure that you direct the conversation by the use of these sample 'approach questions.' Do not be tied to the exact question. It can be varied by using a reference to world conditions and local problems, but be sure to bring in the problem of 'spiritual' needs.

It is almost certain that if he is not Christian then he will make all sorts of excuses and produce all kinds of answers to justify both himself and present conditions. Do not argue with him.

THIRD: You know God tells us that man's greatest spiritual need is a real experience of salvation. Have you ever thought about your own need of salvation.?

Be courteous and considerate. Do not tell him he is not a Christian or unsaved. Let that be assumed. Your question will cause him to think and his reply will reveal how much he knows about salvation. If he is saved, then your question will open the way for him to reveal it you. He may tell you of past experiences on this subject. Be a good listener.

It will give you an idea of his past experiences and if you are a good listener then you will be able to interest him further by giving your own similar experiences.

FOURTH: "WHAT WOULD YOU SAY A PERSON NEEDS TO DO TO BE SAVED"?

This   is a   most vital question. Be genuine in your question and his reply will reveal how much he is exercised and how much he has known of the real way of salvation.

Many will reply by such answers as 'Go to church’ or 'I never do anyone any harm' or "Always do your best and trust God". By this means you will now know if he is saved or not. If you had asked him if he was a Christian or saved his~ reply would probably be 'Oh yes' with out giving you the real secret of his understanding of your question.

If he is a saved person, then maybe he needs further light on assurance and the need to be certain of his salvation.

If, on the other hand, he is interested and you have won his attention, then he   may   reply, 'Well, I don’t know' then the way is now open for you to tell him what God says.

Pass right on to the Word of God and let God speak to his heart from His Word.

FIFTH: "Yes, you are right. Every one ought to do all those things." But what I really meant was "How do you go about receiving Salvation?" By this time he has listened

enough to your conversation and is ready  for the real Word of God and then you can produce your Bible and remark.

SIXTH: "Yes, and you know, it's even simpler than you think. Could I show you 3 or 4 verses about what the Bible says a person must do to receive salvation?"

The rest is in your hands now. But be sure you do read the Bible and not your own views of it. One of the best portions is as follows, with a 5-point outline.

  1. Man's need. (Romans 3:2)
  2. Sin's penalty. (Romans 6:23a)
  3. Christ's remedy. (Romans 5:8)
  4. God's Gift to man. (Romans 6:23b)
  5. How to receive. (Romans 10:9,10,13)

It will be well to memorize these if possible. Always try to pray with your enquirer before you part and it is always wise NOT to end your prayer. Just before you say "amen", invite your friend also to pray, to ask for salvation, to claim forgiveness of his sins and then to thank

God for saving him.

After your friend has accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior, then he will still need your help and if you have handled your interview with him as we have advised, then he should have full confidence. Take care not to abuse this confidence.

Arrange to take him to church, so that he can meet other Christians, and know how to get spiritual food and fellowship. Encourage him to ready and study the Bible and share some good literature with him.

Visit him occasionally and discuss spiritual matters with him.

Urge him likewise to witness and testify of his salvation to others as this will strengthen him.

HOW TO DEAL WITH DEMONS

It is not the will of God for demons to touch any of His children, but they do. The devil knows he has no right to touch any of God's purchased possessions, yet he is a 'thief’ and a ‘liar', who comes to 'steal, kill and destroy’. (John 10:10) There are far too many children of God in Nigeria who are still troubled by demons and who are suffering daily from his oppression and tormenting dreams and fears.

WAYS OF DISCERNING SPIRITS

  1. "Every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus is  come in the flesh (where the Lord Jesus
  2. conquered Satan by His death) is NOT OF GOD." (I John 4:3) "He is anti-Christ, that denieth the Father and Son". (I John 2:22)
  3. "By   their   fruits   ye   shall   know them" (Matt. 7:15,16)

People who are constantly losing their tempers and are constantly telling lies and are frequently depressed and malicious gossipers, can be regarded as being under demon   influence.

  1. The gifts of discerning of spirits. (I Cor. 12)

MANIFESTATION OF DEMONS IN BIBLE

  • Spirits of infirmity. (Luke 13:11)
  • Deaf and impediment of speech. (Mark 1:32)
  • Blind and dumb spirits. (Mark 7:32) Seducing devils. (I Tim. 4:1)
  • Fortune telling spirits. (Acts 16:16)
  • Unclean spirits. (Immorality etc.). (Luke 8:26-35)
  • Grievously vexing spirits. (Matt. 7:24-30)
  • Lunatic spirits (Matt. 17:15)
  • Evil spirits. (Luke 8:2)

Demons can scream, argue, plead and beg when they are disturbed and can throw their victims to the ground. (Mark 9:26) Demons sometimes gain entrance through resorting to juju men, witchcraft, drinking strong drink, gambling and wild living as well as submitting to the administrations of juju priests and herbalists.

HOW TO CAST OUT DEMONS

Jesus cast out demons by 'the Spirit of God’ and by "His Word". (Matt. 12:22, 8:16)

Jesus commanded us (His people) to cast out demons. "IN MY NAME” (Mark 16:17) The Lord Jesus said we should do greater works than He did, because He was going to the Father and would send the Holy Spirit. (John 14:12)

When casting out demons in the Name of the Lord Jesus, do not be afraid of them, the demons must obey HIS NAME.

You should do exactly the same thing as He did and in the same way, and with the same words. You are only the voice or mouth piece of the Lord Jesus. To the deaf demons, He commanded them to come out and they obeyed Him. To the unclean spirits He spoke to them by name and commanded them and they obeyed.

Many times, there is more than one demon inhabiting a person and in such cases complete deliverance of body and mind or fresh health, will not come until ALL the demons are cast out. This may take time and it will be necessary to be firm and determined and let the demons see that you intend to be master and send them out. Keep on repeating your commands to them in firm tones so that they will know you are using the authority of the Lord Jesus against them.

Never allow a demon possessed person to disturb or take control of any service, rebuke the demons and command them to be silent until you can deal with them. Try to work

with other Holy Spirit filled Christians; never be alone.

Remember that demons recognize a Spirit filled Christian and their only hope of remaining in charge of their victim is to deceive you into believing they have gone or are submitting to you. Assert your spiritual authority.

Remember also that if you are allowing sin or evil habits to rule you, then the demons can mock at you and challenge you and you will be powerless.   The Lord Jesus said, “the prince of this world (Satan) cometh, and hath nothing in me." (John 14:30)

WHO CAN CAST OUT DEMONS?

  1. The Lord Jesus cast out demons.
  2. The   disciples cast   out   demons when the Lord Jesus was on earth. (Luke 10:17)
  3. After Jesus' ascension the believers and disciples continued to cast out demons.
  4. Peter's shadow cast out demons. (Acts 5:12,16)
  5. Evangelist Phillip cast out unclean spirits in Samaria. (Acts 8:7)
  6. Paul wrought miracles and demons went out. (Acts 19:11-12)
  7. ALL BELIEVERS are commanded to cast out demons. (Mark 16:20)
  8. Jesus never commanded   anyone to merely go out and preach, but also to heal the sick and cast out demons, and the Lord expects all His servants to have the same ministry today and thus attack the evil spirits and cast them and thus deliver men and women out of darkness.

Jesus said, "Behold, I give you power over all the power of enemy (Satan), and nothing shall by any means hurt you." (Luke 10:19) This is the only power that exists today over demons and evil spirits and the only way to deliver those who have been possessed or even troubled by spirits. Do not be afraid of them, Jesus has defeated them. Do not play with juju or witchcraft because these are the tools of evil spirit and they will become your master. Do not be afraid of juju because the Holy Spirit is more powerful and the demons recognize this.

"THESE SIGNS SHALL FOLLOW THEM THAT BELIEVE"

THE INVINCIBLE JEW

"And the Lord said unto Gideon, the people are yet too many; bring them to the water, and I will try them for thee". (Judges 7:4)

The church today, like Gideon, is engaged in a midnight battle. That battle is the struggle, by lip and life, to keep the Faith pure to attack the strongholds of Satan and prepare for the Coming of the King.

Many of us are deeply dismayed at the state of the Churches and Christians and many may tend to count numbers and assess strength of God's forces by numbers. But the fact is that God is deliberately sifting and choosing His own forces, "not by might, nor by power but by My Spirit saith the Lord". (Zech. 4:6)

God has to guard Himself against the conceit of men. The Victory is to be won by God Himself and so the number of warriors must be small to prove who is the Victor. God Himself is actually superintending the selection of His special 'army', as He did with Gideon's three hundred. God's Spirit moved Gideon to call for volunteers for the battle ahead. 32,000 responded; all fighters, and ready for battle.

TOO MANY FOR GOD

It is true that as soon as any man is converted he must be ready to fight and suffer hardship'. (II Tim 2:3) God said, “the people are too many for Me.”

God wants quality, not quantity. So God cautioned them on the hardship and perils ahead. About 22,000 feared and went back home. That left 10,000 and still God said they were too many and told Gideon to make another test; and that resulted in another 9,700 being rejected by God. By this wise process of selection (ordered by God Himself remember), God found the right men. They had passed all tests, had counted all the costs and had revealed their determination to go on with God no matter how few or outnumbered they may be.

THE LESSON FOR TODAY

God today is in the process of selecting His own special 'commando' force to deal with the rising tide of evil and Satan's attack on the coming Kingdom of God.

It is clear that the Lord Jesus is seeking young men and women, who are ready to serve Him and put Him first in their lives, at any cost. It would seem also that the Lord is gathering this 'force' outside the organized churches, although many young people are still inside the churches. It is regretted that the churches are unaware of this call to battle and they are out of touch with the desires of the young to dedicate themselves to the Lord's service in this country today.

But we also remind all those young people who have the desire to serve the Lord that He will demand 100% dedication and loyalty and that there is a fierce battle ahead. That battle is not against men or churches or other Christians, but against the growing forces of evil.

In these days the Lord is preparing His 'task force' and that will mean tests and trials and fierce oppositions from Satan and only those who refuse to bend or be diverted will qualify for that final 'battle force'.

Make up your mind that there will be few; make up your mind that God will win that battle; and that you can be among those few, and by God's grace, you will be among them.

Let nothing hinder you in this dedication NOW. God calls and we ourselves alone can shut ourselves OUT of that victory.

"God selected, deliberately chose what in the world is lowborn and insignificant, and branded and treated with contempt, even the things that are nothing, that He might depose and bring to nothing the things that are. (I Cor. 1:27-28)

PRACTICAL CHRISTIAN LIVING

"If any man be in CHRIST, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new." (II Cor. 5:17)

When we accept the Lord Jesus into our lives, He "forgives us all our iniquities," He cleanses us from all ungodliness, and bestows a new nature, a new principle, and we start a new life.

It means a complete change in all aspects of our normal life. This is as it should be because the Kingdom of Heaven is a very practical way of life, and it is the normal way of life which every Christian should live.

This will cause a change in many of our former ways of living. In Eph. 5:6-16, 10 and Col. 3:4-6. We find God's plan for our   new way of   Christian   living   and   for building a new practical   Christian way of life, and it is the normal way of life which every Christians should live.

This will cause a change in many of our former ways of living. In Eph. 5:16-6:10 and Col. 3:16-4:6. We find God’s plan for our new way of Christian living and for building a new practical Christian way of life here and now. These portions cover the domestic, business and marital life of true believers, and deals with our vocations, time, marriage, family, money and property. All these are important parts of our present life and we should all examine our own lives and then make sure we are following God's way NOW.

OUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS WORKERS, BUSINESS MEN, AND EMPLOYERS

It is God’s will that men should work. (God will surely find work for those who seek Him for it.)

"We beseech you, do your own business, and work with your own hands". (I Thess. 4:10-11)

"If any would not work, neither should he eat". (II Thess. 3:10)

"Diligent in business" (Rom. 12:11). This does not describe lazy people

GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS TO US AS WORKERS

God expects us to be loyal, honest and to work heartily, as though we were serving the Lord Himself (Eph. 6:5-9, Col. 3:22-24). Dishonesty among Christian, no matter who is our master, is a sin against God Himself. We are to serve the Lord in our daily work and not misuse time or materials that are not our own. (I Tim. 6:2, Titus 2:9-10, Luke 16:10,)

GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS TO EMPLOYERS AND BUSINESS MEN

“Masters, treat your workmen justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven. Be forbearing and not over-bearing”.  (Col. 4:1, Eph. 6:9)

The Lord’s advice to both masters and workers, “Let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves, I am among you as one who serves”. (Luke 22:26-27)

GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS TO EMPLOYERS AND BUSINESS MEN

"Master, treat your workmen justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven. Be forbearing and not over-bearing". (Col. 4:1, Eph. 6:9)

The Lord's advice to both masters and workers, "Let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serve, l am among you as one who serves." (Luke 22:26-27)

GOD’S ADVICE ON THE PROPER USE OF TIME

Time is valuable and we can never recapture wasted time.  Do NOT waste time, make sure that every hour is useful and that it serves the Lord Jesus. "Teach us to number our days". (Psa. 90:10-12) “Redeeming the time because the days are evil". (Eph. 5:16) We should take proper care how we use our time, because the Lord will one day ask us to account for it to Him.

GOD'S PLAN FOR OUR EDUCATION

We ought to realize that God expects the best from His servants and if the Lord opens the way for us to get a good education then we are to take those opportunities and seek to use our training in the Lord's service. We should not seek a university education merely for the money and position or degree which can be secured, but for the use that we can make of it for the Lord's work.

When the Lord wanted an Apostle for the educated Gentile world, He found Paul, a highly educated man whose writings have been our guide in the Epistles.

"Study to show yourself approved of God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed". (II Tim. 2:15)

God is going to use the young and educated in the coming move of God, and we urge all educated youth to dedicate their talents and lives to His service for His people in this country.

THE RIGHT USE OF MONEY

Our use of the money God allows us to handle often reveals our character. Very few people, even Christians, can be trusted to use money rightly. This is one of the reasons why God does not give us more, we misuse the money He has given us now.

"The love of money is the root of all evil". (I Tim. 6:6-10) "Owe no one anything". (Rom. 13:8) It is not the will of God for Christians to be constantly borrowing money and living beyond their means. God has promised to supply ALL our needs. (Phil. 4:19) He asks us all to trust Him for our daily needs and to grow in faith in His promise to meet them. (Psa. 23:1)

WRONG USE OF MONEY

Much of God's gifts in money to us is wasted by the use we make of it. Every Christian must realize that God will surely ask us to render accounts to Him of the way we have used money. (II Cor. 5:10)

It is wrong to use money for GAMBLING. Pools are a wrong way to use money. It is gambling. Use your money to extend the work of the Gospel in Nigeria, and to help those who are in need.

GOD’S ADVICE ON PROPERTY

It seems to be the strong determination of every Nigerian to own land and build houses and to display his wealth.

God says, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt". (Matt. 6:19-20)

God has promised that His people shall inherit the earth, it is our inheritance. Why then should we wear ourselves out in health trying to build earthly property? No need to "waste precious time and money on working and building houses and property for earthly possession. God has given us the whole earth. It is ours.

WHERE IS YOUR HEART?

God says our heart is where our treasure is. (Matt. 6:21) Be careful Jest the cares and attractions of this world rob you of the blessings and inheritance of the future.

MARRIAGE

It is God's will for men and women to marry. But there is a great need for all Christians to consider deeply God's advice before Christians marry, because God intends that marriage shall be for life. "Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh..." (Gen. 2:18, 2:24) Notice that God speaks of one man and one wife. Polygamy is not in God's plan, no matter what excuses man in any country may try to use to justify polygamy. No man can properly cleave to more than one wife; one flesh." (Matt. 19:6) When choosing a life partner it must be a Christian. "Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers". (II Cor. 6:14)

A girl should not be forced to marry someone she does not love or respect and therefore a girl's consent must first be obtained by a prospective husband. (Gen. 24:58) Do not chose a life partner without much personal prayer and much discussion between partners. Every Christian should desire to be married in church before God's people, so that the married vows can be publically given and heard by all. It is also a bad start to married life to run into debt for entertainment at marriage. God does not wish it and the whole ceremony should be quiet and solemn and not with a display of wealth or fashion or an opportunity for expenditure on food and drink.

RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY CHRISTIAN HUSBAND

"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies". (Eph. 5:25, 28, I Cor. 7:3-5, I Peter 3:7)

RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY CHRISTIAN/WIFE

"You wives, be submissive to your husbands, so that some, though they do not obey the word, may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives...when they see your reverent and chaste behavior". (I Peter 3:1-2, Col. 3:18-21, Titus 2:3-5)

"A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. If the husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord". (I Cor. 1:39)

Marriage is for LIFE.

PROBLEMS IN MARRIAGE

  1. Where one partner is an unbeliever, either since marriage or even at marriage. The believing partner should remain with the unbeliever. God sanctifies the marriage. (I Cor. 7:12-15)

Unbelievers when married. They should remain married and not seek to change the situation but the believer should claim salvation for the unbelieving partner and seek by example to win them. (I Cor. 7:10-11)

  1. POLYGAMY: This is not sanctioned by God but many polygamists get entangled
  2. before they are converted. On conversion, they must confess their mistakes to the Lord but they should NOT drive their wives away unless by mutual agreement. Driving a wife away forces her into adultery. Remember the welfare of the children too. A Christian is not permitted to drive away wives and then remarry.

3. IMMORALITY BEFORE MARRIAGE

There should be full understanding and confidence between a Christian husband and wife and anything which happened before marriage should be forgiven, as Christ has forgiven us. Once a sin is forgiven it should never be mentioned again.

Immorality in an unbelieving partner should not be exposed by the believer, they should pray for the one failing and seek to win them for the Lord. This is not a reason for deserting a partner.

  1. DIVORCE. Marriage is for life, until death do us part. Anyone leaving, or driving away
  2. a  partner,   forces   that   partner   to commit adultery. (I Cor. 7:10-11, 39) "Let not the
  3. husband put away his   wife." "The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband
  4. liveth." v. 39.
  5. ADULTERY. It would seem from Matt. 19:9, that the Lord gave permission for a
  6. wife to be 'put away'  for fornication. But it should be noted that the word used is 'fornication', something committed before marriage and if any man marries and meets his wife not a virgin then he has the right to ask for an explanation. It should have been given before they married, but if they are both Christians then it should be forgiven and forgotten.

6. CHASTITY: Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and we should not misuse

them immorally. God will allow sickness to attack us if we do. "Flee fornication." (I Cor. 6:18).  Every   Christian should keep themselves pure for their future partner. "Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge". (Heb. 13:4)

Let your vows before God at your marriage be true and genuine. Remember, “Whatsoever a man (or woman) soweth, that shall he also reap". (Gal. 6:7)

7. Sex between husband and wife is NOT unholy, but sanctioned by God. (I Cor. 7:3-7)

OUR RESPONSIBILITIES TO OUR FAMILIES

We are to provide for all families, wife and children. (I Tim. 3:5, Psa.127:3, Prov. 22:6, Deut. 11:18-19, Col. 3:20)

BEHAVIOUR OF CHILDREN

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord". (Eph. 6:1-3)

A CHRISTIAN’S SOCIAL LIFE

Clothes: "Let not yours be outward adorning with braiding of hair, decoration of gold, and wearing of robes, but let it be the hidden person of the heart". (1 Peter 3:3,4, I Tim. 2:8-10) Clothes should not   be   worn   to entice, to lust or tempt another.

Dancing: No Christian should take part in any social activity which excites sexual emotions and creates appetite for lust. (Matt. 5:27-28, II Tim. 2:22, I Tim. 5:22)

Smoking: Tobacco is a poison and its use is injurious to the body. (I Cor. 3:16-19)

Alcohol: "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging; and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise". (Prov. 20:1) Drunkenness is a sin of the flesh and condemned by God. (Gal. 5:19-21) Read carefully, Prov. 23:29-35.

Conversation. Our words reveal our hearts. (Matt. 12:34-37, 7:1, James 1:19) Do not abuse anyone. (Eph. 4:29-31, 5:3-4, James 3: 9-10, Prov. 31:26)

Submission to rulers: Titus 3:1, Heb. 13:17.

Juju and witchcraft: No true Christian should at any time use juju or seek the assistance of juju priests or the use of witchcraft. They are the tools of Satan and any Christian using them can become involved and may be controlled by Satan.

No Christian should seek to look into the future or resort to prophets to find out what is going to happen in the future. All Christians can approach God for themselves for daily guidance and if He wishes to reveal something of the future then He will do so. But it is wrong to actively seek it apart from God.

"Thus saith the Lord of hosts, do not let your prophets and your diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams which they dream, for it is a lie which they prophesying to you in my name; I did not send them." (Jeremiah 29:8-9)

"Do not turn to mediums or wizards; do not seek them out, to be defiled by them; I am the Lord your God. If any person turns to mediums and wizards, I will set my face 'against that person, and will cut him off from among his people.” (Lev. 19: 31, 20:6)

"There shall not be found among you anyone who practices divination, a soothsayer, or an augar, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard or a necromancer." (Deut. 18:10-12)

Read also I Chron. 10:13-14. Saul sought guidance from a witch and God rejected him.

A Christian should not be involved in court cases.

Read I Cor. 6:1,5-7, Matt. 18:15-17, 5:40. “To have lawsuits at all with one another is defeat for you.” (I Cor. 6:7)

A Christian will suffer persecution

“The Lord Jesus said, a servant is not greater than his master. If they persecute me, they will also persecute you.” (John 15:20, Luke 21:12-15, Matt. 10:20,28, 5:10-12,22, Romans 12:14, I Peter 4:14-16, John 16:33)

Every Christian should be an active member of a soul-winning group.

Make sure your life is surrendered to God and His service and that you have been filled with the Holy Spirit.

These lessons in H.O.L.D. also serve as a Bible Study Course and you should carefully check every Bible quotation with your Bible and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you His meaning and then seek to put it into action.

God is looking for a special people these days, and they will be those who know their God, their Bibles and who know how to lead men and women into salvation and who know how to deliver men and women from sickness and Satan.

May God bless you in your life, your home and your ministry.

BASIC FACTS ABOUT SALVATION:

  1. ALL NEED TO BE SAVED

"Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God." (John 3:3)

"All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23, Isaiah 64:6, Jeremiah 17:9-10, Isaiah 53:6)

  1. NO ONE CAN SAVE HIMSELF

"By the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in His sight." (Romans 3:20)

"Whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." (James 2:10, Isaiah 55:8, Prov. 16:25)

  1. GOD HAS ALREADY PROVIDED SALVATION FOR ALL

"For God so loved the world, that HE gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

"By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast." (Eph. 2:8-9, I Cor. 15:3-4, II Cor. 5: 18-19)

  1. SALVATION IS GIVEN FREELY TO ALL WHO ACCEPT GOD'S RECORD

"These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW that YE HAVE eternal life" (I John 5:13)

"He that hath the Son hath LIFE." (I John 5:12, John 6:29, John 5:24)

  1. OUR DUTY TO CONFESS JESUS CHRIST BEFORE ALL MEN

"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9-10, Matt. 10:32-33, Luke 9:26)

  1. FRUIT WHICH FOLLOWS CONFESSION AND FAITH

"Faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." (James 2:14-18) "I will show thee my faith by my works." (Eph. 2:10, Phil. 2:13, Titus 3:8)

  1. FAILURE TO ACCEPT GOD'S SALVATION

"He that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." (John 3:18, Heb. 9:27, John 3:17, John 5:24)

THE WAY OF SALVATION

(Questions & Answers)

Qstn. 1: Where alone can we find salvation from sin?

We find salvation only in the Lord Jesus Christ.  "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

Qstn. 2: Is it God's will for everyone to be saved?

Yes. God wants YOU to be saved. "For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (I Tim. 2:3-4, II Peter 3:9)

Qstn. 3: What does the Bible tell us to do to find salvation?

We are instructed to confess our sins and repent and accept Jesus Christ as our Savior by faith; believing He will forgive our sins and cleanse us completely. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved and thy house." (Acts 16:31, I John 1:9)

Qstn. 4: How can I have my sins forgiven?

Our sins are forgiven and forgotten by God when we confess our sin to Him and ask for His forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior. “As far as the east is from the west so far hath he removed our transgressions from us." (Psa. 103:12)

Qstn. 5: How may I know my sins are forgiven now?

The Bible says they are forgiven if, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (I John. 1:9)

We have the witness of the Spirit in our hearts that we are forgiven. "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the sons of God." (Rom. 8:16)

Qstn. 6: Am I not saved by living a good life?

No one can be saved by his own good works, however good, because all have sinned daily. "For by grace are ye saved, through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast”. (Eph. 2:8-9)

Qstn. 7: Is there salvation in any other?

There is no other way of salvation and no other mediator between God and man. No priest, no pastor, no minister, or prophet is chosen by God to act as mediator. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." (I Tim. 2:5, Acts 4:12)

Qstn. 8:    What is sin?

Sin is every act we commit against a commandment of God in thought, desire, word or deed. “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies." (Matt. 15:19, James 1:15, 4:17)

Qstn. 9: What is repentance?

Repentance is being sorry for our sins and turning from them. It is a gift of God produced by the Holy Spirit. "God, having raised up His Son, sent Him to bless you in turning away every one of you from his iniquities". (Acts 3:26, 11:18, 5:31)

Qstn. 10: How can we obtain repentance now?

We obtain repentance through showing sincere godly sorrow for our sins and evil deeds. "Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation." (II Cor. 7:8-11) Realizing the holiness of God by hating sin. (Psa. 97:10)

"Woe is me, for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Hosts". (Isa. 6:5, Luke 5:9, Acts 9:5, Gen. 32:30)

Qstn. 11: What is the purpose and result of repentance?

To turn us from darkness to light.

"Ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." (I Peter 2:9, Acts 26:18)

To restore to us the joy of salvation. "Joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth".  (Luke 15:7-10)

To prepare us for the filling of the Holy Spirit.

"Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)

Qstn. 12: Can I be sure of salvation NOW?

We can certainly be sure TODAY that we are saved if we believe God's Word and promises. Let our faith be on God's Word not on feelings or hopes. "He that believeth on the Son of God, hath given to us eternal life". (I John 5:10-13) "That ye may know that ye have eternal life" "We know that we have passed from death to life because we love the brethren". (I John 3:14)

Qstn. 13: Can God change our character, natures and evil habits?

Yes. God can and does change everyone who turns to Him in repentance. They are 'born again' by the Holy Spirit and are made into completely new creatures with new desires, new powers and new way of life.

"If any man be in Christ Jesus, he is a new creature, old things are passed away; behold all things are become new." (I Cor. 5:17)

Qstn. 14: How will salvation affect my daily life?

  • It will give us peace with God. "Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." (Rom. 5:1)
  • It will free us from the very remembrance of sin and give us a clear conscience before God. "Let us draw near, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience". (Heb. 10:22)
  • Keeps our hearts in peace in times of stress, trouble and distress and in the time of death. "Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee." (Isa. 26:3)
  • It will bring us into a new relationship with all the people of God. "We love the brethren." (I John 3:14)

Qstn. 15: How long does it take for a person to be saved?

Salvation is a miracle worked by God in our hearts and it takes just one moment. The moment we genuinely accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and God pardons all our sins and gives us a New Life by a New Birth. YOU HAVE YOUR   CHANCE NOW.

Qstn. 16: Every person who accepts Jesus Christ as Saviour should openly confess Jesus Christ as Savior

"If thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved." (Romans 10:9)

Qstn. 17: Can a believer lose his/her salvation?

Yes. A believer who pleases himself/herself and separates himself from the company of God's people and lives a sinful life again, will lose what God has given him and will suffer the same fate as unbelievers.

"For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it is better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them." (II Peter 2:20-21)

Qstn. 18: How do we know when we have truly repented?

True repentance comes from God and is demonstrated by the change in our Jives. We are then sincerely sorry we have offended God, and not merely regretful we have been caught and punished.

"Bring forth the fruits meet for repentance." (Matt. 3:8)

"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone, faith without works is dead." (James 2:17-20)

"What shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins." (Acts 2:37-38)

Qstn. 19: How can we continue in a right condition of faith before God?

By daily confessing our sins and asking Him to cleanse us with His precious blood.

"If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (I John 1:8-9)

Qstn. 20: Why does God tell us to repent from 'dead works'? (Heb. 6:1)

Repentance from dead works is turning from man-made laws, rites, customs, beliefs and man's efforts to offer his own good works to earn the favor of God. These 'dead works are based on the tradition of elders rather than on the Bible and are futile attempts to work out our own salvation, hoping that God will accept them.

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." (Col. 2:8)

Qstn. 21: What other benefits did the Lord Jesus secure for us when He died on the Cross

at Calvary?

The word salvation includes a great deal, including:

  1. Forgiveness of sin and eternal life.
  2. Deliverance from evil powers.
  3. Peace for the heart and mind.
  4. Healing for the body.

"He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."(Isaiah 53:5)

Qstn. 22: Why is it necessary to emphasize 'justification by faith alone' as the only   way

of salvation?

  1. Because it is the only way revealed in the Bible. "Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)
  2. Because it alone offers hope and salvation to all sinners who are unable to obtain salvation by any other way. "What must I do to be saved? ...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." (Acts 16:30-31)
  3. Because it is the big difference between other religions which all teach salvation by works and man's righteousness. "By the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified." (Rom. 3:20)
  4. Because it gives all the glory to God and none to man. "Unto HIM be all the glory, Amen." (Rev. 1:5-6)
